Kings and Blaze favourites to make Scottish Cup semis

Edinburgh Kings and Boroughmuir Blaze will both be favourites to advance to basketball's Scottish Cup semi-finals when they host two of the quarter-finals in the Capital tonight.

But in another disappointing fixture clash for fans who might want to watch both games they will have to make a choice.

Kings, fresh from their 73-60 triumph earlier this week over Blaze in their first game at their new venue, will face Glasgow Storm at Portobello High School while Blaze will play Dunfermline Reign at the Crags Sports Centre with both games tipping off at 7.50pm.

“We played really well on Tuesday night and we’ll need to give the same kind of team performance if we’re to progress as Storm are a tough team to beat and play hard for the full 40 minutes,” said Kings veteran Scottish cap Paddy Campbell, who top-scored with 17 points, Calum Nicol and Craig Reilly adding 15 each and Ryan Armour 12.

Kings coach Craig Nicol was delighted with the way his team played: “Defensively everything went to plan and we kept them to their lowest points score of the season while in offence we finally started to find our rhythm.”

Blaze coach Simon Turner, without Spanish guard Luke Gibson who could be out for another six weeks, had no complaints with the result and was pleased with the debut of Napier University student Jordan Green.

“He’s an ex Manchester Magic youth player and a great fit for our team.”

Unbeaten Edinburgh Kool Kats, without Tracey Phillips, Rachel Boyd and Mhari Campbell, travel to St Andrews tonight on league business to play Saints at 7.20pm while fast-improving Polonia Phoenix are worth a look at Gracemount HS tomorrow when they host Glasgow Rocks at 11am.

Polonia are also in action again on Sunday when they travel for another Saints day v St Mirren at the Lagoon SC (4.20pm) while Blaze women are way to St Andrews (1.20pm).
