Kool Kats coach steps in to help Kings shoot down Saints

Fresh from steering Edinburgh Kool Kats to their first Scottish Junior Women's Cup success for a decade, coach Doug Reilly steps back into his old role when he takes charge of Edinburgh Kings men side against rivals St Mirren at Portobello High School tonight at 7.50pm.

Joining Reilly will be his son Craig, who returns to the Kings line-up after serving a two-match ban and whose shooting could be crucial in a battle between two closely matched sides. Craig Nicol, the current Kings coach is unavailable this weekend.

“When we lost to Saints earlier this season we were still developing as a team, embedding some new players in,” said veteran Scottish cap Paddy Campbell. “We’re a much better unit now and it’s great to have Craig back as he’s one of the best shooters in the league and it gives us more depth at the guard spot.”

Kings and Saints have each lost three games to lie joint second along with losing cup finalists Boroughmuir Blaze, while Scottish Cup winners Falkirk Fury, with just one defeat and three games left to play, are strongly placed to match Edinburgh Kool Kats and complete a cup and league double.

Scotland’s WBBL side Caledonia Pride host Northumbria at Oriam tomorrow at 1pm in a game in which they must have more than a chance of their first win. Several of the team played for Edinburgh University in their 80-43 away win over Newcastle University in the BUCS Premier North division.
