Lewis Paulin kicks off '˜big year' with first victory of 2017

Edinburgh super-featherweight boxer Lewis Paulin says he is delighted to have kicked off a 'big year' with a points victory over Englishman Andy Harris in Glasgow last Friday.

The 26-year-old, who is managed by Alex Morrison, registered his eighth consecutive win as a professional but revealed he was forced to box at lightweight due to difficulties in pinning down an opponent.

“It was a very dominant win which I was really pleased about,” Paulin said. “We had to fight at the weight above but making the weight was a lot easier this time around. Harris obviously had a natural size and reach advantage and I knew he’d caused some fighters problems in the past. I just had to box and that’s exactly what I did as he ended up with a warning from the referee for excessive spitting out of his gum shield as he was trying to find more time to recover. But, give him his due, he survived to hear the final bell.

“It was good to be back in the ring having suffered a hand injury at the end of last year so I’m now looking to push on for some bigger fights.”
