Local bowlers ready for start of Scottish Fours

Mark McIntosh, John McDermott, Alan Brown and skip Barry Hill represent the Capital outfit at the Dalkeith Stadium at Midlothian IBC which also hosts the challenge from West Lothian and Balbardie.

The Logan family is prominent in the WL line-up with 26-year-old Calum skipping his 61-year-old dad Raymond at second. They’re joined by Blair Mackie at lead and Cameron Greer at third.

WL open against Headwell in the prelim round while the Balbardie rink of Davie Ross, Jimmy Mallon, Jim Speirs and Walter McDougall have a bye into the first round proper where they face Berwickshire.

East Lothian and Midlothian launch their bids at Lanarkshire IBC as they look to book a place in the last-four stage at Aberdeen IBC on the weekend of March 25/26.

Mark Johnston, Stevie Thomson, Jamie Higgins and Derek Oliver shape up as serious contenders from the East Lothian camp albeit their opening prelim round test against Prestwick is a tough one.

Midlothian, represented by Paul Veitch, Neil Watson, Doug Russell and Ian Fleming, open in the first round against Ayr.

The play-down action in the Ladies Fours also takes place over the weekend with Bainfield represented by the rink of Heather Stoddart, Kate McVey, Anna Anderson and Mandy O’Donnell, who open against Coatbridge in the prelim round at East Lothian IBC.

Other matches at the Alex Marshall Arena include: West Lothian v Tweedbank (prelim) and Balbardie v Falkirk (first round).

The Midlothian rink of Margaret Porter, Norma Shillinglaw, Sandra Muir and Shona Johnstone open against Stirling in the prelim round action at Blantyre.
