Logan ready to lead from the front . .

Scotland defend the Junior International bowls title at the Uddingston BC this weekend and it is an extra-special occasion for 23-year old Kirkliston star Calum Logan who plays his sixth series but will captain his country for the first time.

The young West Lothian bowler is a member of a family dynasty of internationalists that comprises Rennie (his grandfather) who won 42 caps, Raymond (his father) who won 30 caps and was national singles champion in 1998, Kenny (his uncle) who won 24 caps, Eric (his uncle) who won three caps and Grant (his cousin) who has 30 caps to date.

“It is a dream come true for me to be asked to captain Scotland which does add a bit of pressure but I relish the challenge as I have grown up watching my relatives achieve international recognition,” said Calum.

“My immediate aim is to pick up the Under-25 Home International Trophy on Sunday and I am quietly confident that we can rise to the occasion as it is a strong squad and the harmony and rapport that exists under the drive and guidance of team manager David Ferguson is first class.”

Scotland’s title triumph at Worthing last year was their sixth in the past decade and the presence of major names like Mark Kelsey, Kevin Anderson, Kevin Wallace, and David Sked of Gifford brings an experience to the team that inspires confidence going into the event.

Graeme Sloan (Rock) and David Miller (Westerton) join Anderson, Kelsey, Wallace, and Logan as the six Scotland skips.

The occasion will also be a memorable one for budding Edinburgh & Leith star Neil Watson as the young Parkside bowler makes his debut and will lead in the rink skipped by Anderson. Midlothian stars 
Calum Crawford and Scott Runciman, both of Newbattle, line up for their second series as does East Lothian duo Grant Thomson of East Linton and Jamie Blair (reserve) of Haddington, also ex-Slateford player Allan Ramsay, now of Abbeyview in Dunfermline.

Elsewhere, the high profile McNab brothers of Dean BC are celebrating a national qualifying title win in the club Triples with Kevin skipping his twin George, and Andy to a 21-6 win in the final over Dougie Hay, Scott Montgomery, and James Barr.
