Local Armadale councillor Stuart Borrowman announced on his Facebook page on Monday evening that the owners of Armadale Stadium, Billy Cochrane and Billy Cochrane Jnr, had started a planning process to build houses on the greyhound venue. The news took Monarchs and their fans by complete surprise but the club have been told they can look forward to a long-term future in West Lothian. Billy Cochrane Jnr revealed: “We are looking to continue the operation of the stadium into the medium to long-term future. Speedway is about to start it’s twentieth season at Armadale and we hope that we will all be here in ten years time to celebrate the thirtieth. However, there are certain things going on in West Lothian at the moment that required us to protect our investment, and that is what we are trying to do. There is no house builder lined up to lay foundations.”

Monarchs co-promoter John Campbell said: “The Cochranes have explained their plans and I am in no doubt that our 2016 season will open on April 2 as planned and we will also plan for 2017 and beyond.”
