Monarchs skipper Sam Masters raring to go for new season

Edinburgh Monarchs skipper Sam Masters has insisted he has put last month's Australian Championship disappointment behind him and is now solely focused on his UK speedway in 2016.

The 24 year-old star, who lost out on the Aussie crown by a single point to Brady Kurtz, will have a packed schedule this season having agreed to double-up with Elite League Wolverhampton Wolves. His Monarchs team-mate Max Clegg also joined the Midlanders and will occupy one of their reserve berths.

While bitterly disappointed not to overhaul Kurtz in the four-round Aussie championship series, Masters reflected: “It’s now time to look forward and I can’t wait for the new British season to start. I came close to winning the Aussie title and was desperate to win it but I have taken a few positives from it.”

Masters hopes to lead Monarchs to a third Premier League title in a row but must do so without talismanic performer and buddy Craig Cook, who has joined top-flighters Belle Vue Aces on a permanent basis. Masters said: “The Monarchs team looks to be pretty good again and, if we can do what we have been doing over the last two years, we should be able to reach the play-offs once more.”
