Netminder Kevin Forshall signs new deal with Capitals

Veteran Edinburgh Capitals goalie Kevin Forshall has signed a deal to return to the club ahead of the new ice hockey season which gets underway next month.

Forshall, who will play a back-up role to starting net-minder Travis Fullerton, first joined the club as a junior back in 2000 when the Murrayfield men plied their trade in the British National League.

The 32-year-old admitted he had seriously considered hanging up his skates following news he is due to become a father for the first time later this year.

Forshall said: “I wasn’t sure I was going to sign again this season with our daughter due in November, which I am mega excited about. That and taking into account the anti-climax of last season made me wonder if it was time to stop playing. I thought I’d draw a line under last season, though, take the summer off the ice and work hard in the gym.”

Following on from last year’s poor campaign, which saw Edinburgh prop up the Elite League table, Forshall continued: “The team looks great this year, with some interesting names. I don’t think teams should take us lightly. We have a lot of players who are used to winning games and that won’t change when they come to the Caps.”
