Where are they now? The title-challenging Hearts side who had their hopes deflated by Jorg Albertz

There is a scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where the protagonists witness a human sacrifice in which a man has his heart ripped out in front of him.

The hardy-bunch of Jambos who braved the wintry conditions to cheer on their favourites at Ibrox on Saturday, February 28 can certainly emphatise with this unfortunate character.

Chasing their first league title since the 1960s, Hearts were level with Celtic at the top of the table and looked set to remain there as they led 2-1 in injury time.

Neil McCann had opened the scoring before Jorg Albertz equalised for the hosts. After Richard Gough was sent packing by referee Kenny Clark, the visitors were able to take advantage of the numerical disparity as Jim Hamilton put them back in front with 14 minutes remaining.

They just had to hold out, a task that became more difficult two minutes later when Grant Murray also saw red.

It looked like they had made it then it happened. Hearts gave away a free-kick in Albertz territory. The German, who always seemed to score against Jim Jefferies’ side, smashed a free-kick that took a deflection off the end of the wall and nestled in the back of the net.

Dropping points to the likes of Motherwell and St Johnstone at Tynecastle, and losing to last-place Hibs away, would eventually see the title challenge fade away, but it’s hard to quantify just how much of a psychological blow this game dealt.

The heartache would be forgotten in May when Hearts went on to lift the Scottish Cup, with many of the heroes also playing in this game.

We have a look at what they’re doing the days...
