Budding Edinburgh motor racer Michael Johnston will continue his dream bid to make it in the motorsport world when he takes part in his second Ginetta GRDC Championship race of the year.

Johnston, 27, is set to travel 400 miles to Snetterton, Norfolk, to take part in three race days across tomorrow and Sunday. His appearance in the series follows on from a successful debut back in July, when he finished third in his first race at Oulton Park.

The Phoenix employee made such a huge impression on the organisers in his maiden outing that he was invited back to compete, but due to the amount of money required to take part, he needed to find a sponsor to make it happen.

That lifeline has arrived in the shape of Hexagon Cards, a firm that operates a prepaid card solution for businesses that want an easy way to manage expenses. The company is launching this month in the UK and has stepped in to assist Johnston, who would not be able to race this weekend without their support.

"This is the last race weekend of the Ginetta GRDC Championship season, so it’s a great opportunity to get a good result to kick off my partnership with Hexagon Cards, as well as putting me in the shop window for the next racing season in 2021,” said Johnston. “I was recently invited by Ginetta to test their brand-new GT Academy race car at Silverstone, which I intend to step up and race in next season.

“I am absolutely delighted to be joined by Hexagon Cards for the race weekend at Snetterton and I hope it is the start of a successful partnership. The GRDC Championship is a great place for Hexagon Cards to market their brand, whilst supporting me and allowing me to progress my motorsport career.”
