And for the first time in the Capital speedway side's 74-year history, the seven riders will this season wear racesuits after deciding to ditch the traditional race bibs. However, the Monarchs were one man down yesterday with Italian and winter signing Paco Castagna unable to fly into Scotland due to visa issues.

He is, however, expected to be at Armadale in just under a fortnight's time when the Monarchs kick off their Championship campaign with the visit of the Berwick Bandits.

The team will once again be led by captain and No.1 Sam Masters. He is joined by fellow Australians Josh Pickering, Kye Thomson and newcomer Jacob Hook. Norwegian Lasse Fredriksen and Englishman James Sarjeant – now enjoying his second spell with the club – complete the line-up in the new uniforms.

The Armadale Devils, who will compete in the National Development League, also enjoyed some track time during the practice event.
