Season tickets now available for The Esk while Drumtassie host open fly fishing comp

Musselburgh and District Angling Association confirm that season tickets for The Esk are now available from Ace Bike Co, North High Street, Musselburgh, next to the Brunton Hall, and the Open All Hours (known locally as Tracy’s) in Eskview Terrace.

Alternatively, anglers can buy online using the book now button on the Facebook homepage.

The price for an adult season is £20 and under-16 and

over- 60 season tickets are £10. A day ticket is £5.

Children up to the age of 12 can fish free while they are accompanied by an adult permit holder.

Drumtassie near Blackridge hosts an open fly fishing competition tomorrow on a

catch-and-release basis from 9am to 3pm.

Meanwhile, a heat of the Scierra Pairs is set to be staged on Saturday, March 21, at Stenhouse Reservoir at Burntisland where there has been a changing of the guard. John Callison has taken over from his father Jock and he plans changes at the 35-acre fishery. John, who is based in Glenrothes, has run five-acre Newton Farm Fishery at Newport-on-Tay for the past six years and he will continue to run that facility.

His plans for Stenhouse include stocking some double-figure fish and building around eight bank casting platforms.

Stenhouse is the home of the Kingdom Fly Fishing Championship and there are three heats planned (May 2, 10 and 16) with the final on Saturday, June 6.

Over to coarse fishing and the third leg of the Winter League organised by Edinburgh and Lothians Coarse Angling club at Orchill was fished in a gale punctuated by rain and sleet showers.

It proved to be a battle of the little fishes with venue expert Bill Hamilton winning followed by Tony Ball who estimated more than 200 fish for his weight.

Results: Bill Hamilton 8lb; Tony Ball 6lb 10oz; Heather Lauriston 4lb 6oz; Geoff Lowe 2lb 4oz; Roz Cassidy 1lb 12oz; Andy Patterson 7oz.

Elsewhere, The Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers (SFSA) host the Cod Open tomorrow (Sunday, March 15) with boundaries from Carnoustie to Ferryden. Fishing is from 10.00m until 3.00pm. Entry is £15 and SFSA size limits apply. Registration is at the toilet block at Victoria Park, Arbroath on the North Promenade and everyone leaves at 9am for their marks. The same organisation hosts its Spring Open at Riverside Drive, Dundee, on Saturday, March 28. Entry is closed and includes several from the Lothians.

Registration is at the snack bar car park at 11am with fishing from 1pm to 6pm and baits are limited to lugworm and mackerel. Two hooks only.

Meanwhile, Aquamarine Charters enjoyed good weather out of Eyemouth last Sunday and among the best fish was a 5lb pollock. The boat will be out again this weekend from 8am and skipper Derek Anderson confirmed there are spaces.
