Born in Edinburgh, the 24-year-old became Scotland’s first ever individual women's Commonwealth Games artistic gymnastics medalist after earning bronze in the vault in Birmingham. 7. Alana Marshall
The Spartans captain was hit with bad news last year when she became diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. While many players would look to retire from football after such a life changing event, the experienced player decided to keep goig. This resulted in her reaching her 200th appearance for the club at the end of last season as the side finished in respectable sixth position in the SWPL. Under the circumstances, it is a remarkable achievement as she continues to battle on and off the field, becoming a role model for all. Photo: Michael Gillen
8. Chloe Rollie
The full-back enjoyed a successful year as part of the Scotland team at the World Cup in New Zealand. She was only the second Scottish ruby player to turn professional after originally spending her teenage years at Hearts as a footballer. This year she was a crucial player in the final qualifier game as Scotland battered Colombia 59-3 to secure a place in the tournament. It was the first time Scotland had qualified for the World Cup since 2010 with the Scots making a good account of themselves. Unfortunately for Rollie she picked up an injury against Australia and missed the final game against New Zealand. Photo: Ross MacDonald - SNS Group
