Patrick holds nerve to win

FORMER Mortonhall man David Patrick staged a storming finish to win the Scottish Young Pros’ Championship for the third year in a row.

Patrick held on to his title after beating Edinburgh-based Neil Fenwick in a sudden-death play-off at West Lothian.

On a dramatic final day, Patrick bagged three birdies in his final five holes to sign off with a five-under-par 66.

One of those birdies came at the short 18th, a feat matched by Dunbar attached Fenwick as he closed with a 67.

That left the pair tied on a five-under-par total of 279, but it was Patrick who secured the £1000 top prize in a sudden-death shoot-out.

The former Walker Cup player is the first player to win the event three years in a row for almost half a century.

Bobby Walker was the last man to achieve the feat and he went on to make it four in a row.

West Linton’s Gareth Wright was third, finishing four shots back after he closed with scores of 68 and 70.
