Racing tips: Dodsworth a look at Musselburgh

That experience has seen his riding improve markedly and he joined Tim Easterby’s powerful Yorkshire yard on his return in the spring. Tim is giving him plenty of decent rides and Robert can notch up another success when Musselburgh stage a teatime fixture tomorrow.

The youngster has partnered seven winners from just 38 rides so far this term for a strike rate of almost 20 per cent and can boost those statistics by steering Our Charlie Brown home in the St Andrews Timber 7 Building Supplies Handicap (6.30).

The gelding was third here early last month and has been runner-up on both his starts since then at Catterick and Thirsk, so looks set to go one better this time.

He was too keen in the early stages last time at Thirsk when sent off favourite and going down by a length, but has good form on the East Lothian track, with one of his four victories last term coming on this course.

He signed off last season with a ready success at Catterick and is now back down to that same mark so, with Dodsworth claiming a very handy 7lbs allowance, the combination get a confident vote.

Zeshov usually runs well on this track and was caught close home when beaten a head in a photo finish here last week. Compensation awaits off the same mark in the 188.com Handicap (6.00).

The seven-year-old has won twice over a mile here – the trip he tackles tomorrow – and been unplaced just once from five visits to the seaside venue. He has yet to score this term, so has seen his handicap mark slip back to below his last winning level. But he has been running well and, with apprentice Jamie Gormley claiming a very handy 3lbs allowance, he can regain the winning thread Gormley can initiate a quick double by steering Pammi to victory in the Donaldson Timber Engineering Handicap (5.30). The three-year-old was a winner on the all-weather at Wolverhampton earlier this year when trained by Tony Carson and was snapped up by Jim Goldie for just 7500 guineas at Ascot sales in July.

The filly has run well on all her three starts so far for the Glasgow handler. She was beaten just a length when fifth over ten furlongs at Ayr and then relished the step up to a mile and a half when romping home by six lengths at Hamilton Park just six days later. Gormley did the steering there, but was absent when Pammi was sent off favourite and beaten three parts of a length into second at the last meeting here when she did not get the clearest of runs. With Jamie back in the saddle tomorrow, she can make amends.

Castle Quarter took my eye when third on his debut at Beverley recently and looks worth a bet at decent odds in the opening 188bet British Stallions Studs EBF Novice Auction Stakes (4.30).

A half-brother to a couple of winners, he cost 20,000 guineas as a yearling and was always tracking the leaders before becoming a little outpaced as his inexperience told when the pace quickened entering the final quarter of a mile. But he kept on strongly towards the finish and will be much more streetwise now, so I expect him to prove a major player here.
