Ratho Park host Swanston New as Summer League begins

Snow showers over the past couple of days may have suggested otherwise but summer is just around the corner.

Indeed, the 2016 Clarityifa Edinburgh Summer League swings into action on Monday with the opening match as Ratho Park entertain Swanston New in Section C.

It also includes latest East Lothian newcomers Craigielaw, who open their campaign with trips to Ratho Park and Dalmahoy on the following two Mondays. Craigmillar Park and Musselburgh make up that group.

Royal Burgess, the defending champions and bidding to lift the title for the eighth season out of nine, begin their campaign the week after next at home to Prestonfield.

That’s in Section A, where the other teams are Merchants, Royal Musselburgh, Turnhouse and Glencorse.

This season’s ‘Group of Death’ looks as though it is likely to be a Section D line-up consisting of 2015 beaten finalists Duddington, Newbattle, Silverknowes, Kingsknowe, Longniddry and Murrayfield.

Brunstfield Links, of course, will have newly-crowned Scottish Boys’ champion Eric McIntosh to call upon in Section B against Mortonhall, Baberton, Broomieknowe, Liberton and West Linton, where, incidentally, the course was closed by snow yesterday morning.
