Rugby: Ruth to gain cap 26

Ruth Slaven, a 25-year-old special needs teacher at Rowanfield Primary, Drylaw, will gain her 26th Scottish women’s rugby cap tomorrow when Holland are encountered in Amsterdam.

The Murrayfield Wanderers flanker, will bring further recognition to an already strong rugby family.

She says: “My dad, William, played on the wing for Heriot’s which is the club one of my brothers, Declan, will play for when an injury clears up. Other younger brothers Liam and Conor are at Ellon.”

Ruth started rugby at Portobello High before moving on to Murrayfield Wanderers.
