The British & Irish Lions are undefeated since landing on Australian soil and it’s now time for head coach Andy Farrell to select his starting XV and replacements for the first of the three match test series against the Wallabies.
Several players have put their hands up and impressed in the warm up fixtures so far, giving Farrell a tough choice in a number of positions. We are predicting the first test will feature a heavily Irish influenced squad with a back line made up largely of Scotland stars.
Here is the Edinburgh Evening News’ predicted British & Irish Lions starting XV for the first test against Australia:

5. Joe McCarthy
Compliments Itoje nicely in the engine room and another Irishman Farrell knows well. Scotland's Scott Cummings has had an excellent tour, coming in as a surprise pick, and has surely done enough to earn a place among the replacements. | Getty Images

6. Jac Morgan
Perhaps would prefer to play at seven but competition is fierce in the back row and the Welshman would be incredibly unlucky not to be included. Ireland's Tadhg Beirne likely to make the bench to cover six and also locks if needed. | Getty Images

7. Josh van der Flier
Was favourite to start in this jersey when the overall squad was named and has done enough to nail the position down despite incredibly high standards across the back row. | Getty Images

8. Jack Conan
Brings leadership and excellent ball carrying power. Should be nailed on for the 8 jersey with the impressive Henry Pollock of England providing an explosive second half addition from the bench | Getty Images
