Wood was brought to the club this week as a replacement for the out-going coach Mike Goodman.

He arrives with a wealth of coaching experience having previously enjoyed successful spells on the touchline at Moray House, Boroughmuir 7s, Selkirk and Boroughmuir’s Club XV.

Jason Henry, who played with Selkirk for 12 years and represented the Borders at age grade, as well as coaching Selkirk’s A and youth sides, arrives as assistant.

Mr Halliday says he’s delighted to finally attract Wood to the club.

He said: “I have tried for a number of years to bring Neill to Dalkeith through discussions leading me to believe he could be of massive value to this club.

“His exposure to a higher level of rugby will help build a structure here that pushes the club to higher standards and develops not only our players, but our culture through the club.

“The addition of Jason to the coaching team is also a massive bonus and brings experience of playing at a high level that can be shared and used to shape our current players.”

Wood says he can’t wait to get his teeth into the challenge. “I followed the team last season and I’m looking to build on the confidence and commitment Michael built,” he said.
