East Rugby: North Berwick battle to win over Dunbar

North Berwick kept up their good form with a victory in the East Lothian derby at Dunbar on Saturday to stay top of BT East One.

It looked likely that the weather may get the better of all regional fixtures in the area, but Dunbar managed to get this game on and it proved to be a hugely-entertaining affair.

North Berwick made the short trip unbeaten in the league and they managed to come away with a bonus-point victory.

Captain Grant Spence scored a try, as did Liam Mackle, while Matt Wallace scored two and Liam West weighed in with two conversions with a final score of 24-8.

Murrayfield Wanderers made it back-to-back wins over teams from Hawick. Last week they battered Hawick Linden 65-10 in the shadow of the national stadium before edging past Hawick Harlequins in a much-closer contest this time round.

Conditions dictated that it was not a day for running rugby and, in the end, they came through 10-5 with captain Ally Chalmers scoring their only try and Murray Hastie kicking a penalty and a conversion to see them home.

All other matches in the division were off, as were all the scheduled encounters in BT East Two, while BT East Three does not resume again until January.
