The home strip is designed to mimic the chain-mail worn on a knight’s armour, while the away design features a camouflage theme.

Jonny Petrie, Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director, said: “It’s paramount that players not only feel comfortable in but are proud to wear their match kit and I think this fits the bill on all fronts.

“The club has worked closely with Macron on the fabric and design of our 2015/16 strip and we’re all looking forward to seeing both the home and away versions in action at our pre-season friendlies against Romania in Melrose and Ulster at Goldenacre later this month.”

Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron, said: “We are proud to sponsor Edinburgh Rugby and, once again, the synergy created between our design team and club management has allowed us to combine the tradition of Edinburgh with the innovation of Macron in a single product.

“We are confident of having created a range of products that all supporters will appreciate.”

Edinburgh are expected to wear the new kit against Romania at Melrose on Friday - and it’s been a big hit with the players as well.

Back row Roddy Grant said: “I’m really pleased with the new design of the jersey. We all think it looks great and is the perfect design for the black’n’red army of Edinburgh.”
