The Capital club announced on Monday that back-row Du Preez, pictured, is one of four players departing at the end of the season – the other three being Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, Duncan Weir and Jason Tovey – and the 26-year-old has agreed terms on a switch to Worcester, where he will link up with his former Edinburgh coach Alan Solomons.

“Cornell is a fantastic player with exceptional skills. His all-round game will be of huge benefit,” said Solomons.

Du Preez is being brought in by Worcester to compensate for the loss of another Scotland and former Edinburgh player in David Denton, who is quitting the Sixways outfit after just a year.

“We’re sorry to see Dents go. He’s a really good bloke,” said Warriors director of rugby Solomons. “We know he’ll continue to give his all in the blue and gold for the rest of the season.”

Worcester also expect to clinch the signature of Edinburgh stand-off Weir for the 2018/19 season.
The Scotland player was due to join the English Premiership club on a short-term deal last week, but Edinburgh have decided to retain the 26-year-old for the time being as cover at No.10.
