The 24-year-old is set to be out injured until early 2018 and is yet to make his Edinburgh debut following cruciate ligament surgery.

As a result the Olympian, who has previously helped coach at Cumnock and Carrick in the west, has decided to use his spare time to help the BT National League Division Three side.

Bennett said: “The guys have obvious potential and I am really excited by the opportunity of focusing that enthusiasm and hopefully surprising the opposition by what we can achieve.

“It gives me a great opportunity to learn about how to bring the best out of players.”

Wanderers head coach Bruce Aitchison added: “Mark has made a fantastic impact already. The players have enjoyed working with him and the coaches have been given a great lift with his enthusiasm and love of the game.

“Mark is a proper rugby man who is a product of the club game and is a real asset to us.”

To date Wanderers have made a great start to the season with two league wins from two. They are due to host Highland this afternoon.
