Sam Hidalgo-Clyne set to join Scarlets

The nine-times capped Scotland internationalist is believed to have rejected an offer from the Capital club and decided to pursue his career in south Wales.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2015 and was selected for Scotland’s World Cup squad but his last cap was off the bench against Wales in the Six Nations two years ago.

Hidalgo-Clyne has not been included in Gregor Townsend’s squads for the autumn Tests and recent Six Nations and faced challenges for the Edinburgh No.9 jersey from Nathan Fowles and Sean Kennedy.

The scrum-half has featured regularly under Richard Cockerill this season and made what looks to have been his last home appearance for the club during Saturday’s 24-19 win over Glasgow in the 1872 Cup decider.

Hidalgo-Clyne follows in the footsteps of Scotland skipper John Barclay, who reinvigorated his career with a move from Glasgow to the Welsh region but it is returning in the opposite direction and joining Edinburgh for next season.
