Scottish Rugby confirms there will be no fans at Six Nations matches against Ireland and Italy

Murrayfield will be empty for the Six Nations matches against Ireland and Italy.

Mark Dodson, the SRU chief executive, had hoped that some supporters would be allowed in to next month’s games against Ireland and Italy.

However, the governing body announced on Tuesday that they would be played behind closed doors.

A tweet from the Scottish Rugby account said: “To comply with current @scotgov public health guidance on COVID-19, Scotland’s @SixNationsRugby fixtures vs Ireland on Sun 14 March and vs Italy on Sat 20 March at @BTMurrayfield will be played behind closed doors.”

Speaking in December, Dodson said that the SRU were secure financially, even without fans.

“The important thing is that our financial situation, regardless of no crowds at the Six Nations, is now secure because of the refinancing we have achieved through to 2022,” he said.

This was due largely to the cash pumped into the Guinness Pro14 from the private equity firm CVC.
