There are five more rounds of games to be played in the truncated season before the winners of each conference meet in the Pro14 final on March 27.

There are also some rescheduled games which will take place in late January and early February.

Each club will play 16 regular season matches and there will be no play-off games other than the final.

A new competition, the Rainbow Cup involving the four South African Super Rugby teams, is due to start on April 17 but uncertainty surrounds the proposed tournament due to possible Covid travel restrictions. South Africa has been particularly badly affected by a new strain of the virus.

The revised Pro14 fixture list sees only one round of the dreaded Monday night fixtures which caused such a headache for the Scottish pro teams during the autumn international window, denying both Edinburgh and Glasgow their Scotland players.

League organisers have acknowledged the problems they caused and it means those players not needed on match-days by Scotland during the Six Nations should now be released to play for their clubs.

The absence of a third Edinburgh-Glasgow game in the Pro14 leaves the 1872 Cup in flux. In recent seasons the inter-city competition has been played over three matches. The two clubs could now arrange their own match to decided the destination of the trophy this season after each team won their home game in the first two meetings.

A statement from both Scottish pro teams said: “In addition, to the Pro14 fixtures, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh are currently considering options for a third and final 1872 Cup contest this season in order to complete the three-game derby series, currently tied on one game apiece.”

A statement from Pro14 Rugby said: “Fixtures will occur during the Guinness Six Nations with more extensive use of Friday nights and a limited number of Sunday fixtures. To help increase club access to international players it was not possible to implement a weekly run of Monday night fixtures, but Round 16 will include two games on Monday, March 22.

“PRO14 Rugby can confirm that no play-off games will be required for European qualification and that rankings after Round 16 will be used to determine which teams will participate in next season’s Heineken Champions Cup once EPCR have confirmed the format.”
