Will France v Scotland be played? When Six Nations 2021 game may be rescheduled - and could Scots be awarded victory?
Reports in France suggest the game could be played in early July
Scotland were scheduled to play Les Bleus on February 28 but following an outbreak of Covid-19 in the French camp the game was postponed.
Tournament organisers are now faced with a rescheduling headache, while some Scotland supporters are calling for Scotland to be awarded a bonus point victory due to the breaking of Covid protocols by French staff.
When will the match be played?
Tournament organisers have yet to provide fans with an indication of when the crunch fixture will take place.
A statement from Six Nations read: “We will be working on the rescheduling of this fixture and will communicate the date in due course.”
Despite no indication from organisers there has been plenty of speculation from fans and the media.
According to reports in France, late June/early July is under consideration as a potential time for the match to be replayed.
If the game was played on July 3 it would clash with the British and Irish Lions’ fixture with the Stormers.
Further options being considered include a midweek match on March 8 and a tie on the weekend of March 27.
How did the outbreak unfold?
France head coach Fabien Galthie was the first to return a positive test following Les Bleus’ slender victory over Ireland.
Eleven players, including star scrum-half Antoine Dupont and captain Charles Ollivon, have been diagnosed with Covid-19.
Both Galthie and his players have since been accused of leaving the bubble and breaking tournament protocols.
French sports minister Roxana Maracineanu threatened to pull the team from the tournament amid reports that players went out to eat waffles while in Rome to face Italy in round one.
French Rugby Federation president Bernard Laporte has now revealed that the day after the Azzurri had been crushed 50-10, Galthie attended the Stade Jean-Bouin in Paris to see his son Mathis play.
“For me, he has the right to leave from the moment he is masked. He was outside,” Laporte told France 3 television channel.
“He watched the match alongside (Stade Francais director general) Thomas Lombard, who himself is tested every three days and also wore a mask. I don’t see where the problem could be. But then again I’m not a doctor.”
Could Scotland be awarded a 28-point victory?
If anyone in the France camp is confirmed to have broken protocols Scotland could be awarded a 28-0 bonus-point victory over the tournament favourites.
Team unable to articipate in Autumn Nations games due to positive coronavirus tests were forced to forfeit games, with the opposition taking a 28-0 victory.
Prior to the tournament the head of the Six Nations Ben Morel said that rescheduling the fixture would be a priority.
Morel said: "The primary focus would be to reschedule”.
"The reason why we went for immediate results during the Nations Cup was that it had to progress because there was a finals weekend.
"We would obviously want to protect the sporting integrity of the Six Nations as much as possible. We are confident in our ability to stage the matches at the right time, it's more what logistical gymnastics we need to adapt to."
