Sean Flynn makes a solid debut for Great Britain in Germany
The 17-year-old, who is a double British champion having won on the road and in mountain biking, made a solid start to the four-day event, crossing the line in 12th place on the opening day but slipped nine places after the second stage and was down to 22nd by the end of the third day which was split between two stages including a time trial.
However, Flynn, a member of the British Cycling Junior Academy, had a strong showing on the closing stage, a tough 120 kilometre test over six laps of a circuit that featured a stiff climb and led to a high drop out rate. He produced a gutsy effort and was 16th finisher in his age category, giving him 20th place in the general classification behind the Norwegian Soren Waerenskjold. Flynn’s team-mate William Tidball was fifth in the overall Under-18 age group.
