After losing the first frame, Mein made a run of 45 in the second before Vallance cleared the last three reds and all of the colours to double his lead, before winning the next frame to secure victory.

Vallance will now meet Craig MacGillivray in the semi-finals after he beat Colin McAlpine 3-0 with breaks of 47,72 and 58.

Mein’s disappointment was doubled when he then lost 5-3 in the final of Event 4 of the Scottish Main Tour to Edinburgh’s Robert Carlisle at the Locarno Snooker Club.

However, Mein’s consolation is that he still remains in the No. 1 position in the Scottish rankings.

Teenager Dean Young lost in the final of Event 4 of the Scottish Under-16 Tour, going down 4-0 to Calvin Gourlay at the Minnesota Fats Snooker Club in Glasgow.
