Snooker: MacGillivray shines in Russia

Two of the Lothians’ top amateur snooker players experienced mixed fortunes when they were in action yesterday.

Granton’s Craig MacGillivray defeated Holland’s Jaris Haas 6-0 to reach the last 32 of the 2013 World Pyramid Championships in Kemerovo, Russia. MacGillivray was set to meet another of the eight non-Russian qualifiers today for a place in the last 16.

Musselburgh teenager Ross Muir’s recent winning run came to an end last night when he lost 4-2 to Rhys Clark in the final of Event 4 of the Scottish Under 21 Series at The Lucky Break Snooker Club in Clydebank. Muir won a tight first frame but then lost the next three frames to trail 3-1 at the
interval, with Clark making a 61 break in the second frame.
