Hib, Hearts and Spartans have all had players who have performed at a high level throughout the season. From one player getting into the PFA Team of the Season, to another helping their team win 11 of their last 14 games, all of Edinburgh’s best-performing players this season have been included in this Capital XI.
9. Striker - Katie Lockwood
The striker may have only signed for Hibs in January but she quickly made herself known in Leith. It took just two games for the striker to net her first goal for the club as the 25-year-old quickly became one of the most lethal finishers in the SWPL. The forward managed to finish the season with seven goals including one in the Edinburgh derby as well as an important brace against Partick Thistle to win the game 3-1. Lockwood will be hoping to keep these numbers up going into the next campaign where she should easily hit double figures. Photo: Malcolm Mackenzie
10. Centre midfield – Ellis Notley
Perhaps the most consistent player in her team, it is hard to remember the last time Notley had a bad game for Hibs. With the ability to play as a centre-back, full-back or midfielder, these skills became incredibly important to the club as they hit an injury crisis in 2023. From here, the 24-year-old could have been found playing anywhere on the pitch to help her team but this did not stop her from consistently putting in high-end performances on the pitch. Notley was particularly impressive in the last Edinburgh derby at Easter Road as she played a key part in Eilidh Adams’ opener. Photo: Mark Scates - SNS Group
11. Left midfield – Michaela McAlonie
McAlonie has easily been one of Hibs´ best players this season. The midfielder has shone throughout the campaign and was undoubtedly missed in the latter stages when she pulled up with an injury. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old has had many unforgettable moments this campaign including the opening goal against Hearts at Tynecastle in front of a crowd of over 7,000 people. The midfielder managed to return to action just in time to see out Dean Gibson’s last few games in charge and even put in a player-of-the-match performance in his final game against Partick Thistle as they won 2-1.
