Tennis: Florida joy for Fleming

Linlithgow’s Colin Fleming and English doubles partner Ross Hutchins will go into this week’s Indian Wells tennis Open on a high after saving a match point to win the Delray Beach International Championship in Florida, US.

It was Fleming’s first title of 2012 and fourth overall at top professional level.

The pair defeated Slovakian/Brazilian pair Michal Mertinak and Andre Sa 2-6, 7-6, 15-13 in the tournament final in Florida.

A relieved Fleming admitted later: “Absolute battle and came back from the brink but feels great.

“It was like an emotional rollercoaster really.

“We managed to come up with big points when we needed them today.”

It is believed Fleming now has the equal third best career high of any Briton since ATP doubles rankings began in 1976.
