The boost for McIntosh is a deserved reward for the Turnhouse player turning the clock back this season to top the Scottish Order of Merit at the age of 47. He also bridged a 27-year gap by playing in the Home Internationals again.

The other Lothians players definitely set to receive backing from the game’s national body for the 2017 campaign are North Berwick’s former Scottish Women’s champion Clara Young, as well as juniors Eric McIntosh (Bruntsfield Links) and Connor Wilson (Dunbar).

For McIntosh, his support will include a trip to Bishops Gate Golf Academy in Florida, which has replaced the United Arab Emirates as Scottish Golf’s preferred destination for such a purpose, for an upcoming winter training camp.
