Victorious MacGillivray lavishes praise on vanquished young rival Craig

Granton snooker ace Craig MacGillivray won the opening event of the Scottish Main Tour Series at Glasgow’s Q Club last night after a 4-2 victory over 16-year-old Dylan Craig.

MacGillivray started brightly,
making a 70 break in the opening frame. The youngster from Glasgow, playing in his first Main Tour final, won the next with a 54 break to level the match. The next two frames were then shared
before MacGillivray won the fifth frame with a 40 break and a 55 break was enough for MacGillivray to win the sixth frame and secure the title.

MacGillivray, 40, who won the opening Masters series event last week, said: “I am delighted to win the title and to win two Scottish titles in a week is a great achievement for me.”

The former professional,
however, was quick to acknowledge the performance of his young opponent. He added: “Dylan did really well considering that was his first final and he has a lot to be proud of. I think at the moment he is
one of Scotland’s brightest prospects. He has a great
temparament, scores high, his long potting is good.”

Meanwhile, Bonnyrigg professional Michael Leslie returns to action tomorrow in the Belgian Open in Antwerp when he faces Nottingham’s Anthony Hamilton in the opening round.
