Volleyball: Bad injury for Riddle sours City’s semi-final success

City of Edinburgh reached the final of the men’s John Syer Trophy by beating Scottish volleyball champions Glasgow Mets but the victory came at a price.

Graham Riddle suffered a horrific injury in the third set – an open dislocation to a finger – and had to have surgery on Saturday evening.

He will be out for a huge chunk of the season and the injury put a dampener on another fine performance by the Capital side.

Edinburgh Jets caused an upset to reach the final of the women’s John Syer Trophy when they beat City of Edinburgh 3-1 on sets. It is the one trophy that has eluded the club so far.

But Jets will start as underdogs against unbeaten Troon PA, who defeated Su Ragazzi in straight sets at the weekend.
