Volleyball: Edinburgh avenge Killie Blaze defeat

City OF EDINBURGH ensured they will top the men’s Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League going into the new year by toppling Kilmarnock Blaze at South Queensferry.

Without Mariusz Chudzik and Jamie McHardy, Connor Boyle was promoted from the second team as Edinburgh sought to take instant revenge for the previous weekend’s painful defeat by Blaze in the final of the John Syer Trophy.

It was no surprise that it went to five sets again, but this time Edinburgh held their nerve to triumph 25-17, 16-25, 25-19,
17-25, 15-12.

It means Edinburgh have a two-point lead at the top going into the festive break, but this is anything but a two-horse race for the title this season.

Edinburgh Jets moved into second place with a hard-fought 27-25, 25-20, 28-26 over Bon Accord in Aberdeen.

The women’s first division is no less intriguing, with City of Edinburgh beating Troon Team Ayrshire for the second time in a week on Saturday, 25-15,
20-25, 25-10, 25-17.

Troon remain top of the table but now hold only a two-point lead on Edinburgh.
