Watsonians eye vital victory

WATSONIANS hockey face a moment of truth tomorrow as they travel to Division Two winners Gordonians seeking a win that would see them take a step closer to Division One promotion.

The in-form Tipperlin-based club need just one win to secure a play-off slot against near neighbours CALA Edinburgh.

Watsons, currently in second place, have not lost in the league since November 19 when they were edged 6-5 in a road match at sixth-placed Uddingston.

Currently, the Edinburgh team have 47 points from 20 matches, eight adrift of Gordonians and three ahead of Stepps.

The form book, however, suggests an Aberdeen win as the Capital outfit lost 9-5 at home to the Granite City side earlier in the season.

The Edinburgh outfit must be wary of Stepps though, who lost narrowly to Edinburgh University in last season’s promotion play-off.

Both promotion-seeking Division Two clubs have one more game remaining after this weekend. Watsons host Uddingston while Stepps travel to fifth-placed Falkirk. Both matches are on April 28.
