Young ambassador role for Niamh

Niamh (17) will be part of the 2017 Young Ambassador conference team which will help influence and shape the future direction of the sportscotland Young Ambassador programme.

Niamh, seen here with Rio Olympic bronze medallist athlete Eilidh Doyle, said: “It’s an honour to play such an important role in encouraging younger students to get involved in sport. Whether they are taking part, coaching,officiating or spectating – it will all help them develop them as individuals.

‘‘I’ve been involved in the Young Ambassador programme for the last three years, it has helped me grow as an individual and develop a variety of skills that I never thought I’d be confident at.

‘‘I’ve achieved so much from meeting with members of the PE department within my school to organising and leading school assemblies and sport competitions - I have a great feeling of pride witnessing the impact I’m making and helping individuals developing their abilities and attitudes towards sport.”

Each year, two pupils from each secondary school in Scotland are chosen as sportscotland Young Ambassadors to promote  sport, and motivate and inspire other young people to get involved in sport in their schools, clubs and local communities.
