Sandy Balls New Forest: I had a wholesome family holiday at Away Resorts village - with fun in hot tub cauldron and walks with wild horses
My family and I travelled down to the New Forest to stay at Away Resorts UK Sandy Balls holiday village - for a break away and some quality time together.
Located in the heart of the New Forest, as soon as we arrived we drove past wild horses and pigs. My two-year-old niece was in the back of the car amazed by the animals, and us adults were even excited going “look, look out of the window!”.
It felt magical driving through the rolling hills and through vast forests to get to the resort. The drive was really enjoyable. And what was waiting for us was even better!
My family and I stayed at the Sandy Balls resort during the Halloween week so there were events on for children and the park was kitted out with spooky decorations. There was a skeleton, pumpkins scattered around and spooky interactive faces on the wall. At night it was even better as the park had put up twinkling lights and a screen in the middle which showed monster characters singing Halloween songs. One evening there was even marshmallow toasting.

Our caravan was also decorated to the max. We entered our little home for the week to find hanging cobwebs, a ‘trick or treat’ banner, and how can I forget - the hot tub cauldron! The park had kitted out the hot tub to make it look like a cauldron, with a fun little trick or treat button added on the side. If you pressed treat you had a nice voice saying ‘treat’, but ‘trick’ was a horrible voice - and my little niece had so much fun pressing these buzzers!
The hot tub was a lovely added touch. It was so nice to relax here in the morning and night. My family and I really made the most of it, and it was great to chat and relax here. I was really impressed by the decorations, I thought they were great.

Away Resorts goes all out with its 31 Days of Halloween, offering spooky decorations, arts and crafts, and eerie entertainment. My little niece loved the disco’s and the events, dancing away on the dancefloor.
The site also has two restaurants. Aubrey’s Forest Kitchen serving pizzas, steaks and pastas, and the Woodside Inn for classic pub grub. Main meals averaged £18, beer £7, and prosecco £10. Other highlights included ghoul school, pumpkin carving, and Junior Off-Road Land Rover Discoveries (£15 for 30 mins).
As mentioned at the beginning, being situated in the New Forest meant that you are not short of things to do. We did many beautiful walks taking all the nature in, and there were a few cozy pubs dotted around too.
The stay was so much fun and perfect for a family break. The Halloween decorations were impressive, and with Christmas around the corner I am sure the staff at the holiday park will go all out once again making it as festive as possible. It was a shame to lock the keys and walk away from our Caravan, to which my niece was calling her ‘new home’. It was sad, but that’s when you know you’ve had a great time.
