Edinburgh band Idlewild announce special 30th anniversary show at Usher Hall this winter
The band performed their first ever live show in the Subway Club in 1996
Edinburgh indie rock band Idlewild have announced a huge city gig to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
The band shared news of the upcoming show at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on social media.
They will play the venue on Friday, December 18, followed by a second anniversary gig at London’s Shepherd Bush Empire on Saturday, December 19.

The special shows come as Idlewild celebrate their 30th anniversary, with the band revealing that they first took to the stage at Edinburgh’s Subway club in 1996.
Idlewild said in a post on social media: “It was January 1996 when Idlewild first took to the stage at the Subway Club in Edinburgh to perform our debut concert.
“Thirty years later, to celebrate this anniversary we are pleased to announce two very special shows at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Friday 18th December and London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Sat 19th December.”
Idlewild is made up of members Roddy Woomble, Rod Jones, Colin Newton, Andrew Mitchell, and Luciano Rossi.
Throughout their three-decade-long career, the band have released ten studio albums.
Their most recent, the self-titled ‘Idlewild’, was released in October 2025 and became their highest charting album to date, reaching number 16 in the UK Album Charts.
Music fans may have also seen Idlewild play support for US emo-rockers My Chemical Romance during their huge outdoor gig at Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park earlier this month, with gigs also lined up in Arbroath and Glasgow next month.
Tickets for the 30th anniversary show in Edinburgh go on general sale on Friday, July 31 at 10am.
An artist presale, which you can sign up to on the Idlewild website, is open now, with an additional Gigs In Scotland presale available from Thursday, July 30.
