Edinburgh Zoo cancels lantern event amid weather warning

The attraction has urged visitors to check its website for further updates as opening times may also be affected.

Edinburgh Zoo has cancelled its Giant Lanterns event as gale force winds threaten to batter the Capital tomorrow evening.

The attraction has stopped Friday's event and said it may also be forced to open the zoo later than usual on Saturday morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds from 6pm on Friday through to 3pm on Saturday.

Customers have been urged to check the zoo's website for updates.

A post on Twitter read: "With weather warnings in place over the weekend, we have had to cancel Friday night’s lanterns event and may open the zoo later than usual on Saturday.

"We plan to open as normal during the day on Friday and for Saturday evening’s lanterns event. Please continue to check our website for updates.

"Visitors with pre-booked zoo and lanterns tickets will be contacted. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions."

In another post, customers were advised they could use Friday's tickets on Saturday or Sunday without having to re-book.
