Fashion: Rock chic

Rock chick chic is about to hit Auld Reekie with Haddowfest just around the corner.

The mini music festival will be spread out over six city centre venues and takes place on Sunday with acts such as
Kassidy, The Cribs and Katie Sutherland on the bill.

It’s the perfect excuse to unleash your inner groupie and
dabble in a little Edie Sedgwick-inspired fashion. Andy Warhol’s one time muse is known for her stylish flare. Her
Bohemian yet glamorous approach to dressing has continued to catch the imagination of legions of women long after her 1960s heyday.

With mini dresses, big earrings and furry jackets being her signature look, you’ll have to abandon any notion of gig hopping while dressed down in jeans and t-shirts.

A classic LBD is the perfect piece to glam up or down. It lends itself to the art of manipulation marvellously. When choosing a mini, think about the cut and material as that will determine how dressed up you will appear. Gravitate towards tones rather than colour – think block black, white or metallic. Keep footwear on the floor. Wearing flats will crank down the sexiness of the overall look and bridge the gap if you are feeling overdressed.

Find a full-on studded biker boot for a severe rock chick
appearance. Or opt for an elevated Chelsea boot with just a hint of a heel. You don’t want to be wearing a high pair of shoes with this look. You want to create a fashion juxtaposition, so place masculine and feminine shapes together to create a bit of edge.

Bear in mind that we are talking venue hopping over six locations, the last thing you need are crippled feet halfway through the day. There are some amazing ballet pumps to be found on the high street right now. Add texture with pony hide in leopard print or pull out the full metal treatment with some studded embellishment.

It’s either high heels or mini here – never both. So if you can’t be lured out of skyscraper shoes, choose a wet look legging or leather jeans to team together. Have fun accessorising a band
t-shirt by adding marabou feathers over the top. This trend is all about the fun of dressing up, so enjoy it.
