Gig preview: The Overtones offer a great night at Usher Hall

HOUSEWIVES’ favourite The Overtones have come a long way since they were discovered by a Warner Brothers talent scout while working as decorators in a shop near London’s Oxford Street, singing during their tea break.

The platinum-selling vocal harmony group have been dazzling audiences with their blend of classic harmonies and modern pop since forming in 2006, and each time they go out on tour the venues get bigger.

Tonight, the five-piece visit the Usher Hall, where they’ll put their unique spin on covers by the likes of the Righteous Brothers (You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling), Nat King Cole (Unforgettable) and Jackie Wilson (Reet Petite).

“Our concerts are one big party, you won’t fail to have a brilliant time,” says Mark Franks. “Our gigs are a great night out, our music is feel-good, and our concerts emulate that.”

Bandmate Timmy Matley agrees, saying, “We pride ourselves on having a personal show with our audience - we get them involved.

“We like to have a giggle, we like to cross that invisible barrier between being up on stage and being in the audience.

“We don’t want it to be the same as watching us on TV - we want it to be live and full of sound... it’s a laugh, a joke and a dance.”

The Usher Hall may be one of the Capital’s plushest venues, but the boys don’t want to stop their fans having fun.

“Sometimes we play the most beautiful venues and fans want to get up and dance only be told to sit down... we’re always like, ‘No get up and dance’.
