This is how you can hear the Edinburgh Festival's best jokes at home every day

Those with access to devices such as the Amazon Echo and Google Home will be able to ask for a joke from the Festival every day while it is running.

Users will simply have to say to their digital assistant of choice, "Give me a late night laugh" to receive a short stand-up clip from the BBC’s new Festival-centric strand, Late Night Laugh.

"You'll be able to bask in the blast of a quick comedy rocket, launched by a different performer each night," said the BBC during a preview of the new service.

"A different comic, a different gag every night. It'll just look like you're shouting at the furniture."

You don't even need a smart speaker

The initiative aims to showcase the work of both stand-up legends and the best up-and-coming talent.

Those who don’t have access to the futuristic technology will still be able to experience the daily jokes delivery. The clips will be available to download in podcast form.

Late Night Laugh will be available daily between August 3 and 27, when "all the country’s comedians have been emptied into Edinburgh."
