Legendary New Yorker Lach plays Sneaky Pete's

New York's legendary founder of the Anti-Folk movement, Lach

Since then the Radio Four favourite has been building a fanatically loyal indie-club circuit. Not surprising for a man that founded a worldwide music and art movement - Antifolk - and who has been compared to Bob Dylan and Lenny Bruce in the same breath.

Credited with being at the roots of modern song writing, London Time Out declared: ‘Bob Dylan, Syd Barrett, The New York Dolls, Nick Drake and Lach!’

High praise indeed but not uncommon for the man who has been cited as an inspiration for acts ranging from Beck to Jeff Buckley and from Suzanne Vega to Laura Marling.

On Wednesday there’s a chance to see Lach at Sneaky Pete’s in the Cowgate, and with his UK touring circuit firmly intact, Lach has begun inviting some of his favorite performers along for the ride.

Past UK tours have included bills with Suzanne Vega, and duets with Florence and The Machine, and Michelle Shocked.

Now comes Lach’s second tour with Chris Barron of The Spin Doctors.

Barron’s legacy is the stuff of myth. His band, The Spin Doctors were ubiquitous in the early nineties, seemingly everyone owned their iconic album Pocketful of Kryptonite.

Then in 1999, doctors believed Barron would never sing again due to a rare vocal chord paralysis.

A year later, Barron wandered into the Sidewalk Café in NYC to see his friend Lach host The Antihoot. After several weeks he asked Lach for a slot. You could hear a pin drop as he took the stage and found his voice again.
