THE last few generations have not been kind to Edinburgh's ecclesiastical architecture. Shifting demographics, dwindling congregations and other societal factors have seen scores of church buildings fall by the wayside.

Sadly few of the replacements can match the sheer majesty and inherent beauty of what had been gone before. We’ve scoured the archives to provide you with fourteen of Edinburgh’s lost churches, many of which now exist only in battered photographs and distant memories.
