By the age of just 25 Cilla was recognised as international singing star Cilla Black.

By the age of 30 she had become Britain’s favourite television entertainer.

In the 60s and 70s her prime-time Saturday night series Cilla ran for eight years. She had two sitcoms, Cilla’s World of Comedy and Cilla’s Comedy Six.

In the 80s, 90s and early noughties she was again the queen of Saturday night telly hosting Surprise, Surprise and Blind Date.

The new musical, presented by Bill Kenwright and Laurie Mansfield will open in Cilla’s hometown of Liverpool before coming direct to the Capital.

National open auditions will be held to discover a new talent to play Cilla, in the same way the star herself was plucked from obscurity.

With a musical score that promises to be the ultimate soundtrack to the 60’s, all Cilla’s greatest hits will be there from Anyone Who Had a Heart to Alfie and Something Tells Me.

Other songs of the period featured include the legendary ‘Liverpool Sound’ of the Beatles’ Twist and Shout, American influences like California Dreamin’ by The Mamas and The Papas and many more.
