Is Six the smash hit of the 2018 Fringe?

At Underbelly George Square, the all-female cast of Six are being mobbed by hundreds of fans after each performance and playing to sold-out houses every night. Not bad for a musical ‘about’ one of the England’s most notorious Monarchs.

Divorced, beheaded and live in concert. From Tudor Queens to pop princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII finally take to the mic to tell their empowering tale, remixing 500 years of ‘her-storical’ heartbreak into a 75-minute celebration of sisterly sass-itude.

Following last year’s sell-out pop-concert musical, and ahead of a London West End run, Six has returned triumphantly to the Fringe, this time accompanied by a six-strong female rock band.

Already selling out the 400-seat Underbelly Purple Cow there seems little doubt that Six is set to be the musical theatre’s ‘next big thing’.

For Cambridge student graduates Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss it’s a dream come true. Not only do they have their West End transfer guaranteed, there’s already global interest in this exciting and unusual concert-style show.

With songs including Ex Wives, Haus of Holbein and Don’t Lose Ur Head, Six is just over an hour of 21st century sass - if you thought it was all about one man - you thought wrong!

Six was discovered at last year’s Fringe by George Stiles, one half of British musical theatre composers Stiles and Drewe , famous for their scores to the likes of Half a Sixpence and Mary Poppins.

Stiles, who has since come on board as Executive Producer of the show, hails Marlow and Moss as two of the most exciting young composers working today.

He says, “Marlow and Moss have made the most witty, insanely tuneful debut of any British theatrical song writing team in years.

“When I saw Six last year, I literally lost my head. I hadn’t ever thought about producing someone else’s work but the relevance of the show’s theme combined with a playlist of original songs that deliver on every level had me reaching for the phone to bring Six to a wider audience.”

With interest from several big name producers, a bidding war for the rights saw top London producers, including Kenny Wax who took The Play That Goes Wrong from a tiny pub theatre to the Broadway, successful.
