The Simon and Garfunkel Story comes to The Brunton Theatre

Waving farewell to the fab 50s in favour of the swingin’ 60s, he plays Art Garfunkel in The Simon & Garfunkel Story at the Brunton Theatre tomorrow, joined by another musical theatre star Greg Clarke (Chess, Woman In White and The Witches of Eastwick) as Paul Simon.

In The Simon & Garfunkel Story Elliott and Clarke ask: Has it really been 50 years since the most successful folk/rock duo of all time recorded their first No 1 hit single The Sound of Silence?

Direct from a successful run at London’s Leicester Square Theatre, the production boasts it is currently the biggest and the most successful international touring theatre show to celebrate the lives and career of the popular duo.

Featuring a full cast, the piece tells the story of both Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, from their humble beginnings as rock ‘n’ roll duo Tom and Jerry, right through their massive success, dramatic break-up, finishing with a recreation of the 1981 Central Park reformation concert.

Simon & Garfunkel met as kids in Queens, New York in 1953. With The Everly Brothers as their inspiration they scored their first minor success - Hey Schoolgirls - in 1957.

A seminal act of the 60s, their often tempestuous relationship is well documented, artistic disagreements causing them to part company in 1970. Still they have reunited from time to time, and in 1981 they played their famous concert in Central Park, attracting more than 500,000 people.

Using projection, The Simon and Garfunkel Story features 1960’s photos and film footage whilst a live band perform all their hits including Mrs Robinson, Cecilia, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Homeward Bound, Sound of Silence and many more.
