Celebrate whisky festivals with limited edition drams

Capital whisky lovers are in for a treat. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society releases a new batch of around 30 single cask, single malt whiskies every month, in May, 10 of those will be exclusive bottles to celebrate both the Spirit of Speyside and Feis Ile festivals.

SMWS is determined to make it a month to savour for their members with a series of Speyside and Islay-themed tastings at its premises on Queen Street and The Vaults, in Leith.

The celebratory festival bottlings include, from Speyside, the 21-year-old Graceful Gravitas and nine-year-old Andalusian Gazpacho, and from Islay, A Journey into Joy (20 years old), A Maritime Meander (13 years old), Indulgence by the Sea (12 years old), Sweet Smoky Succulent Sensation (9 years old), A Perfect Moment (20 years old), Weaving Wondrous Dreams (8 years old), Slapped by Poseidon’s Glove (11 years old) and Smoky Incarnations (11 years old).

Helen Stewart, senior brand manager for the Society, says, “The Speyside and Islay Whisky Festivals are key dates in the whisky calendar, with May seeing the annual pilgrimage to the renowned whisky festivals.

“This year we have bottled more casks than ever before to give members all over the world even more opportunity to purchase one.”

Of course to taste these limited edition whiskies (except Weaving Wondrous Dreams which will only available at the festival), you first have to be a member.

Not a member? You will still be able to enjoy special Islay and Speyside festival flights at Kaleidoscope Bar at the SMWS premises on Queen Street, which is open to the public and will also boast a selection of Festival themed cocktails from Friday 4 May.

Speyside and Islay-inspired offers and menus with matched whiskies will also be available in the Members’ Rooms at both Leith and Edinburgh venues.
